Organizing Notions

I use various methods to organize my other sewing stuff, e.g. notions, thread, sewing machine feet, embroidery floss, etc.. I mostly aim for tidiness and convenience. The most beautifully organized arrangement wont stay that way unless its also convenient.

For example, I keep my sewing machine fee in a clear plastic case with dividers. I keep the case under my sewing machine table.

I use a lot of these divided containers. A few are used for embroidery thread. Two larger divided cases are used to hold marking tools, small rulers, measuring tapes, thimbles, etc...

Here you see the space between my cutting table and my sewing bookshelf. The cardboard box holds interfacing, pattern paper, freezer paper, and so forth. I usually buy interfacing in bulk (when its on sale). When I get it home I pre-shrink it by soaking it in a sinkfull of hot water until the water cools. Then I let it dry on a sweater-drying rack in the tub. Once its dry I wrap it on a tube (usually and old wrapping paper tube, which I save for this purpose).

The green trashcan is where I put fabric scraps as I'm cutting. Periodically I'll go through the bin and sort out what scraps I want to keep. As you can see its pretty full right now.

That's all I have for organization. If you have a question or would like a suggestion for how to organize something in your sewing room, email me, I'd be glad to help.
