Lampwork
Lampwork is the art of making glass objects by melting the glass in a flame (or lamp). Below is a picture of my lampwork area. My husband built the vent hood which has double fans and a combination of incandescent and flourescent lights mounted on the inside.

Egg shaped glass bead

Brad Pearson Egg

This bead is about 1.3" on the long axis. I made it during a class with Brad Pearson, who is an excellent teacher. Much larger than I normally work, but I really like how it came out. (5/31/06)

First Efforts

This string of beads are my first efforts. I only get to do lampwork a couple hours a week, so this represents at least a month of effort! The very first beads I made are the blue ones at the top. The beads are strung chronologically down to the bottom. In my early days I was just trying to get beds that were mostly round.

Second Efforts

Here is the next month's worth. Definitely getting better, although I still found it challenging at this point to make a bead that is not lopsided.

Plunged Bubbles

Below I experiemented with plunged bubbles (upper left) multiple stacked dots (upper right), silvered ivory stringer mixed with sky ble on a black bead (a la Corina Tettinger) and some rubino oro encased string used to make roses, which look more like blobs here.

Green spotted purple bead

EDP

This bead was an experiment with Moretti #254 (evil devitrifying purple) wth pea green frit. Interesting effect, but I find this purple very frustrating to work with, and always seem to get some devitrification. I've tried working it hot, working it cool, close in and far out in the flame and just can't get it to behave itself.
